Things that happened while I’ve been away/crashed out again:
✨I left London after 7 lovely years </333
we packed up our lives onto 2 pallets and shipped them across the sea *obviously all 4 fur babies also came with- my drained bank account to prove*

✨I moved back to the US and into my first HOME in Minnesota!!! I can’t wait to show y’all the renos and mood-boards for all the different rooms :’)

✨I have the studio space of my dreams and room to really grow with my work. I started painting again.

✨We have an actual backyard!!! with a willow tree!!!? said goodbye to the Columbia Rd flower market and hello to my new fav hobbies: gardening & landscaping 👩‍🌾 💐

✨My paternal grandmother recently moved in with Alex and me after she had a stroke and couldn’t live on her own anymore. In her 90 years she never lived with or liked cats.. She’s a cat lady now 😂

✨Healed a part of my soul in New Mexico while visiting my best friends and retreating to the mineral springs in Ojo Caliente.

✨Larry is thriving. I finally got him his backyard. Plus his bestie, Nash, is now only 10 minutes away.

✨this is just another highlight reel of my life.

What is not pictured are all the bad days over the last few months. Days spent sobbing between tufting a rug or packing boxes. Days spent questioning myself and why I can’t just fucking feel happy when life seems to be going great. Not pictured is the day I hit rock bottom. The day I finally admitted to a loved one I was considering taking my life and needed help. Not pictured are the days I had to confront past trauma and deep pain that I buried away for years. Days learning how to love myself again and acknowledging my worth; I do matter.

If you stuck around during my absences, thank you. I’m so glad to still be here with you. If you are struggling or have struggled with mental illness, trauma or any type of difficulty in your life, thank you for sticking around. Thank you for staying on this earth; you do fucking matter.

Also! I often get asked which side is the front of the rug/frame and if my rugs are ‘backwards’ (lol no), so here’s my longwinded explanation:
The first 3 photos are the “front” of the frame, the side that is finished & has the fluffy loops.
However, with tufting you tuft into the opposite side of the frame and then glue it so the yarn does not come out of the fabric. That’s what you see in the rest of the photos!

Most people that tuft use the ‘cut-pile’ tufting gun- that’s the shaggy or shaved look that many rugs have. Ya know those ASMR shaving videos? Those are after they used a cut-pile tufting gun because the yarn is not all an evenly cut length when it’s tufted onto the frame. There’s another machine called a ‘loop-pile’ tufting gun; loop-pile machines creates the loops similar to punch-needle. That is what I use :)

Basically the yarn is threaded through and a long needle goes in and out of the fabric extremely fast (like how a tattoo gun works), pulling the yarn and creating dozens of loops in a row while you move it up/down or right/left.

It’s important to note that tufting is incredibly labour intensive and requires steady movement along the frame. The tufting gun is very heavy and if it’s not moved along and pushed into the fabric consistently it can rip the fabric or bunch up yarn/create a very uneven, messy rug. My back/shoulders are often sore and my hands have their fair share of calluses since starting, but goddamn when a frame turns out like this it’s so worth it. 💖

2&3. We adopted this sweet boy, Hamish, about a month ago 💙🩵 he’s around 1.5 years old with Disney eyes & a sensitive tummy (like me xo)
4. Pansy coasters are back babyyy
5. It was my honey’s big 3-0 ❣️
6,7&8. @marcquinnart at @kewgardens - a must see, especially for my orchid lovers!!!
9. Euros !!! Olympics!! ⚽️ 🏅go sports
10. Probably sweating in the studio 🥵
11&12. O’Malley escaped by pushing open a window while we slept and was missing for over 72 hours (not cute). Worst week of my life but I forgot to set up my camera & take pics of me crying & dissociating so here is O’Malley snoozin off his wild adventure.. like butter wouldn’t fucking melt
13. I’ve been DIYing a catio attached to my studio window. It’s nearly done
14. Larry has helped a lot
15. O’Malley’s since been grounded & has to wear an AirTag but I let him have a sneak peek of the catio before it’s finished bc I love him too much

Tomorrow I’ll be reopening orchid preorders and opening hibiscus preorders for the first time (if you put a back in stock request you got an email yesterday giving you first dibs)! 🌺 the 30 minute slot was a bit too stressful for some, so I’m going to keep them open for one week or until I feel I’m at my capacity to take on preorders while still being able to work on other stuff over the next couple months ❤️

And finally!!!! The pansy drop will be August 9th at 5pm! This will not include minis- sorry!!!! I know y’all have been waiting but I have been quietly making them and will be doing a big drop at the end of August with minis & other blooms xx

Why they still have them decades later and that they’re suddenly out of storage is beyond me lmao. Anyways, Larry has a bone to pick (haha) with specific breeds including German Shepherds, so this triggered him xx

My kitchen makeover 💚🌿

@makeitrustoleum kindly gifted me paint to create my dream kitchen <333 My mood-board was full of different shades of greens with pops of pinks, peach, corals & reds. I already knew I was going to make a dark green tiled kitchen island/bar top and hang several plants so I wanted the walls & cabinets to compliment that.

🫒I used Pickled Olive in matt on the cabinets & Laurel Green in matt on the walls.
🖊️I also used a black grout paint pen to upgrade the tile backsplash. Rust-oleum also makes grout & tile paints in loads of colors!!

I flipped the kitchen island from an old sideboard I found on FB marketplace with other recycled materials. I’ll be sharing that DIY project soon :)

This time of year tends to be the hardest on my mental health. My brain goes into this ‘end-of-the-year overdrive’ which comes with many sleepless nights, emotional & physical exhaustion, burn-out & a handful of mental breakdowns. The sun setting around 3pm (on days it’s even out) also doesn’t help with my brain fatigue and low mood <3

I took most of December off social media to look after my mental health & alleviate any pressures these apps can bring. All this being said, I want to express my gratitude for the unwavering support from you all. I am so fortunate to work for myself and at times take things slow so I can look after my mental health. It’s an incredibly privileged position to be in and I wouldn’t be able to do that without this community. Thank you. I am sending my love to every one of you, especially those who are not at their best this holiday season. Take care of yourself, you matter. See you in 2024 💖
